Weekend Update

30 03 2009

Whew…this weekend was a whirlwind. I’m not sure where the days went. However, like many I’m returning to work feeling as if I never had a weekend! It just went by entirely to quickly.

Friday I left work not feeling fabulous. I woke up w/ a kink in my neck that morning and the pain just radiated and induced a lovely headache. I went to meet a client briefly on my way home to get various documents signed. I then got home. Changed into comfy clothes and poured myself a rather large glass of wine. I then went to bed relatively early.

Saturday I woke up. Started taking some practice exams for an upcoming test I’m prepping for. I poured myself a nice big cup of coffee. Once I spent some time with that I got up and did some cleaning around the house. By 10:30am I was out the door and off to visit my friend Melissa. I’ve known Melissa since my early days in the brokerage industry. I actually met her through her sister Mary Pat who used to work in our industry as well. Mary Pat (M.P. as we call her) flew in from Texas to visit w/ Melissa this weekend. Melissa and Roger just had their first child Bryson just a few weeks ago. Below are some pictures of me w/ Bryson this weekend. He’s just adorable. I bought him a cute Bunnies By The Bay rabbit w/ a snuggle blanket for Easter. As it turns out one of Melissa’s Aunts bought a Bunnies By The Bay outfit which matches the bunny perfectly. Too cute! Melissa’s house turned into a McDonough reunion as Katies soccer game got cancelled (their younger sister) and she decided to make the drive over, both Melissa’s parents were there, and then Peter thier brother showed up.

After I left I went shopping for a birthday present for my friend Margorie Riordan. She just turned 50 and our friend Mary Paradis hosted a surprise birthday party. I know both these ladies through our book club. Margorie also happens to work for the same firm as I do. As I pulled up to Margorie’s house I noticed 50 pink flamingos adorned her front yard and a sign that read “Happy 50th Bird-Day Margorie”. Pretty funny. The party was held next door at Mary’s place. Plenty of food (Mary is an awesome cook), tons of liquor, and an over abundance of fun loving people to share the night. As it turns out there were quite a few familar faces to me from my industry as well as members of our book club I haven’t seen in a while. It was a nice evening.

Sunday I did the run to Costco. Which if someone has the secret of how to get out of there without dropping $200+ dollars a trip please let me know! I unloaded all the groceries. Did some light cleaning and prepped dinner. I then hit the books again and begun studying. I did manage to enjoy sitting out on my deck for about an hour before the storm front rolled in. I was determined to get in two practice exams before Desperate Housewifes aired. How sourly disappointed I was when it turned out to be a repeat. I hate when that happens. So I picked up book I’ve been working on. Read a few chapters and headed off to bed.

And now we are back to work. Ah…is it bad I’m already wishing the weekend was upon us????

National Cherry Festival

cherry-blossoms-march

As luck would have it I am headed into DC on Wednesday, April 1st to attend the 2009 Man & Woman of the Year Kickoff Party at The Park at Fourteenth. The Cherry Blossoms downtown are scheduled to peak April 1-4th. So I’ll definately make an effort to get down to the waterfront for a stroll. I’ve lived in this area my entire life and I have to admit I’ve only been down to see the blossoms once before. And even worse I’ve never attended the Cherry Blossom Parade. I’ve got a lot of studying to get done before the 11th. But if I’m feeling good about my practice exams I may try to get down to see the Parade next weekend as well.

Above is the link to the official website for the National Cherry Festival. There’s a lot of great events this year. Check it out!

Hop on Board!

kegbus1

Ladies and gents we’ve officially booked the Keg Bus as our mode of transportation to Gold Cup. We’ll be having three pick up locations. One at a local hotel, one in my neighborhood, and one pick up in Kathy’s hood. So far we have 14 people signed on as definates. We are waiting to hear back from the rest of you. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in participating as we are limited to the number of passengers we can take.

All the specific details were sent out in an email. If for some reason you did not get the email please shoot me a quick email at curebloodcancers@gmail.com and I’ll flip the email to you! This is going to be one awesome day! I’m so looking forward to it. I have my sundress and rocking hat ready to go!

We will have some contests set up throughout the day. Those who win will be awarded Members Hill passes at the event. I know one of the contests will be who has the best hat. So ladies….start doing your shopping!!! Trust me…from years of experience you will most likely need to turn to the internet to find a decent hat. Most stores in our area don’t carry fancy hats (even though Easter is around the corner). Although I did find mine at the Christmas Shop in Middleburg, VA. They have a back room w/ some clothing and hats from the Austrian area of Germany. Happy hunting.

Great Balls of Fire

24 03 2009

I’m sure you all may have heard talk on the radio and tv news about tomorrows planned explosion on the DC waterfront. Aunt Michele just forwarded me an email with all the details. Here’s the scoop:

Please be advised, there is a simulated explosion scheduled for this Wednesday, March 25 between 9:30 am and 12:00 pm near the Key Bridge in the District. Here is some additional information:

For the filming of a TV pilot, there will be a simulated explosion
on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, between 9:30 a.m. and noon near
Key Bridge in the District. The explosion will produce a 20 to 30′
fireball that will last for approximately two minutes.

The explosion will take place on the Potomac River just north of
the Key Bridge and Jack’s Boathouse (K/Water Street, NW under the
Whitehurst Freeway). In the scene to be filmed, there will be six (6)
sculling boats on the Potomac River and one of them blows up. CBS
Paramount television is filming a pilot titled “Washington Field.”
This is a new television series about the elite Washington field
office of the FBI and a team of agents with exceptional and diverse
skills who are called together for only the most critical cases.

The Department of Homeland Security and D.C. Police and Fire
departments have been notified, along with the Washington Airports
Authority. The Virginia State Patrol and Arlington Police Department
will also be contacted.

9/11 Memorial You Should Check Out

20 03 2009

teardrop01Click here for more information on the memorial

Wow…wow…wow. I simply can’t say enough about the work of art presented to the US by the Russian people. Please click on the hyperlink to learn more about how this monument was conceived and to view more pictures which surround the monument. This is truly beautiful. The location of the monument is absolutely ideal. With views of the former Twin Towers and The Statue of Liberty. I am absolutely floored that I’ve never heard of this memorial’s existance before today.

Thanks Aunt Michele for sharing this bit of info :)
