G40 – The Summit
4 03 2010A special thanks to the creative forces behind the G40 Summit for the invitation to the VIP / Media Opening of this new exhibit. I was unable to attend but my dear friends Dawn and Tim were able to attend on behalf of The Real McCoy. Here’s Tim’s lovely review. I’ll load his photos of the event this weekend. Enjoy.
G40: The Summit
The Crystal City BID is back to its old tricks again and with the help
of Art Whino and Vornado they have created a new art show akin to
Artomatic. Of course, not to encroach on Artomatic, this event is
directed more at a political theme through New Brow art.
I recommend bringing your walking shoes as you’ll be on your feet the
entire time (and there is no seating to take a break on). This show is
showcased across five floors, each with artists from a different
geographic region. Strolling through the different floors you’ll
encounter all sorts of art mediums. From full installations to
traditional oil and canvas or photography. Though I couldn’t see much
of this fitting into my home, most of the art is for sale and most of
it is excellently done. You absolutely cannot help but be impressed
with much of the work at this show. Even if New Brow isn’t right for
your home, browsing through the different floors if both entertaining
and enjoyable.
While I don’t agree with many of the artists’ political messages, the
show has something for everyone and not everything there is political.
At a price point of FREE, it’d be difficult to pass up such a fun and
interesting show. I’d suggest checking out their site at
http://www.artwhino.com/g40/ and trying to catch a live performance.
With so much ground to cover at one show, you might find yourself
returning for a second or third time.

A Night At The Improv
4 03 2010Last night I gathered with a group of my friends to head into the city for a night out. We started off our evening at Panache in DC. The food was amazing. We started off with various tapas: Tuna Tartare, Olive Tepanade, Beef Tenderloin Brochette and Procuitto Wrapped Dates. Then we each had our own main entree. I selected blackened salmon over an asparagus risotto. We finished off dinner with a lovely Tiramisu. The meal was wonderful from start to finish. I would highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if you’ve not yet visited them. They also have a restaurant in the Tysons area.
After dinner we walked across the street to the Improv. We managed to find a nice table which had a straight view of the stage. I ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate Tim’s new job. Not only did he land a fabulous new job but he’s conveniently going to be in the same office building as his girlfriend Dawn. Fate is interesting some times isn’t it?
Our entertainment for the evening is a comic hypnotist I’ve seen once before. His name is Flip Orley. He chatted up the audience a bit and explained what was going to happen throughout the evening. I found his commentary about his four ex-wives entertaining. He joked that you’d think with his hypnosis ability he could have made his marriages work. The laundry list of things he said he should have hypnotised them to do was pretty funny. It was a good introduction to his show and certainly helped loosen up the stiff DC crowd. When the time came to ask for volunteers from the crowd you can bet not a soul from our table moved. However, the stage quickly filled with eager audience members willing to try to go under hypnosis. Flip took them all through an induction phase. At the end of this period a good percentage of the participants were able to be hyptotised. The rest of the evening picked up from here. He had the group believing they all lived in a trailer park that had been invaded by aliens. Next he convinced the group that they were all part of a band that was famous for their use of yodelling and rap. Honestly the comments each of the participants made throughout the show was damn funny. We had a lot of great laughs. Flip will be performing until Sunday so if you don’t have plans this weekend I’d go check out this show. You’ll have a great time! Click here to be directed to the DC Improv site.

Parking Wars
3 03 2010Last night I had a comical discussion about office parking etiquite with my dear friend Dawn. Dawn works in an office building which has a large parking garage connected to the building. She arrive at 0′ dark thirty in the morning and consistently parks on level two closest to her office elevators. As a woman I can appreciate wanting to be close to the entrance to the office. Especially when you are arriving early in the morning and there aren’t many other workers around. Dawn drives a huge SUV which is quite difficult to park in just one parking space. Not to mention with her SUV if another car parks near hers it’s darn impossible to get in and out of her car. Sometimes sucking in your gut just isn’t enough! So with that in mind Dawn found the perfect spot to park her car. In between two columns where there is typically space for two cars. She takes up both of the spaces. Thus assuring she’ll be able to get in and out of her car with ease. Not to mention the space is conveniently located near the elevators.
Over the last few months someone has taken the time to leave Dawn a series of nasty grams on her SUVs window. Now most of us admit seeing someone taking up multiple spaces and thinking…”sheesh that person is an A-hole”. However, the mass majority of us have a life and don’t take the time track down who the driver is and harass them about their parking etiquite. Now Dawn is not one to be bullied. This mystery note writer has no idea the can of worms she’s opened up. Had the individual written a relatively nice note Dawn would have most likely hung her head in shame and indeed moved to a higher floor as to not overly offend this person. However, with written personal insults this individual decided to unleash I can tell you that Dawn would much rather enjoy taughting this person. I asked Dawn if she was worried if this person would do something to her car (i.e. slash her tires, key the paint, etc.). She said, “no…that’s why I pay for insurance”. I instantly envisioned the scene from Fried Green Tomatos where the young female driver slides into a parking space the older woman was waiting for and exclaims, “I’m younger and I move faster.” To which the older woman replies, “I’m older and I have more insurance”…and then crashes into the younger girls car. Oh I can see this parking war of Dawn’s is going to get interesting.
Does anyone have a Nanny Cam out there??? Because I for one would love to know who this spineless chick is. From the notes you can tell it’s certainly a woman whose behind these notes. Stay tuned…more to come I’m sure!
UPDATE FROM DAWN at 11am Today –
Well, the b#%*^h did what I would have done from the very beginning. She went to building management and I just got a call telling me that I have to move my car because it’s parked illegally. Right now, I really wish I knew who this woman was. I AM LIVID!!!!!!!!!! And I can guarantee you that I’m the ONLY person who is parked “illegally” that got a call and was told to move!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want revenge but I don’t know how to get it!
Hmm…thoughts anyone???

Black Eyed Peas Concert – Verizon Center, DC
25 02 2010Tuesday night we headed to the Verizon Center to see the Black Eyed Peas in concert. We were hoping to grab a quick bite to eat at Rosa Mexicana but the hour long wait was just too long. So we opted for some BBQ sandwiches at the Verizon Center along with some nice cold beer. We missed the opening acts LMAO and Ludacris. Before the Peas’ came on stage we got to enjoy DJ David Guetta (who PS is an AMAZING DJ!). However, we could hear both of those groups performing while we hung out in the corridors. The Peas’s kicked off their two-hour show with “Let’s Get It Started” and closed the night with their recent hits “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling”. My favorite songs by far however were “Meet Me Halfway” and Fergie’s “Glamorous” which Ludacris joined her in the second half of the song. Will.i.am did a solo performance where the set raised and created a DJ both above the crowd. The disco lights where moving across the stadium and he mixed in popular songs like, “Thriller, Sweet Child o’ Mine, Don’t Stop Believing, etc.”. His performance had us all singing along. The set was very futuristic as well as the Peas’ bling a bling costumes. Fergie was so covered in sequins most the time that between the lighting and the flash of my camera I couldn’t get a good photo. Here’s a few of the photos I did capture. Mind you we bought our tickets late in the game and ended up in the 400 nose bleed section…so I didn’t expect I’d be taking phenomenal photos. The concert ended with a huge burst of confetti exploding from the set and dropping from the ceiling above. Overall we had a great time!

The District – Adams Morgan’s Latest Club Opening
22 02 2010This weekend Merit pre-arranged for us to be on the guest list at The District. The host for the evening was the current bachlorette from the tv series. I steer clear from reality TV so I couldn’t even begin to give you a name. All I could tell you is that she’s a blond and Merit informs me her date was one of the bachelors from a previous season. As Merit and I stood waiting in line these two breezed right by and got escorted to the clubs enterance in the rear. Despite being on the guest list we waited about a solid hour outside. Mind you it was freezing! At least while waiting in line we were entertained by a young man from Australia who is a DJ in Aussieland. He talked a lot about the evolution of techno. It helped pass the time. Once in the club I must say I was impressed with how spacious the club was. Our coat checking experience was lack luster. The club needs to hire someone who moves a bit more efficently. However, the bartenders were on their A game. It certainly helped that bars were conveniently located in just about every corner of the club. The DJ LS played the best in Top 40, Hip Hop, International and Rock. It was a perfect blend of music. The crowd was vastly different from my latest venture to Midtown. This crowd was a good blend of ages and ethnicity. I’d say a universally appealling club. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Although next time if I go with a large enough group it might be worth while to purchase a table. Especially if it’s cold out. To add your name to the guest list visit: http://www.360nightlife.com/events/show/119.

Snowpocalypse in Virginia
11 02 2010As I type this I must profess that every muscle in my shoulders and arms is aching with a degree of pain I’ve not experienced before. I am beyond tired of shoveling snow and having to carefully navigate our treacherous Virginia roads! This latest round of snow has officially done me in. I’ve lived in Virginia all my life and I can honestly say I’ve never seen this much snow at once. It wouldn’t be so bad if I could stay home the entire week. As it stands our office only closed on Wednesday due to the inclement weather. At least I had very good company while I was snowed in. That and a nice dose of wine to warm me back up after all the shoveling!
Above are some pictures of the Hanger at Dulles International Airport. As you can see the roof couldn’t quite handle 4 feet of snow sitting on top of it. Most of the jets in this particular hanger are corporate and privately owned. In this economy it stands to reason that a few owners would likely welcome the write off of their plane. What a mess!
